Born in Paris in 1986, Marta Bakowski is a Franco-Polish designer. She graduated in product design from Central Saint Martin's School and the Royal College of Arts in London. She then joined designer Hella Jongerius's studio in Berlin. In 2013, she founded her own studio in Paris and has since cultivated a hybrid and transversal approach to design, blending industrial, artistic, and artisanal projects, with a pronounced taste for research and a strong attachment to working with color. Through her career, punctuated by artist residencies around the world (Design For Peace in Burkina Faso, IDE in Puglia, Italy, ADIR with the CushCush Gallery in Bali, Indonesia), she has become truly aware of the power of the object as a vehicle for narrative and cultural identity.
Drawing inspiration from her travels and encounters with other cultures, she believes in the need to anchor design in a particular context, which in turn strongly influences her creative response. Her bold and graphic style is instantly recognizable, emphasizing color and material work, bringing an expressive quality, a playful character, and a meaningful narrative to her creations.
Her objects, published by Roche Bobois, La Chance, Ligne Roset, Designerbox, Mireille 1929 and Maison Matisse, have been the subject of numerous international exhibitions. In 2022, she joined the JAD as a resident and began several collaborative research and innovation projects, allowing her to leverage her expertise as a designer and colorist.
